Milwaukie High School
The Mustangs hosted the Century Nights for their second game of the season. The Mustangs came out looking strong. A shot just wide of the far post came at just a minute into the game. Milwaukie kept penetrating the goal and two minutes later sophomore midfielder, Irene Estrada, punched a ball from senior midfielder, Ellie Holmes, past the Century goal keeper for the first score of the night. Just 10 minutes later, Estrada, scored again on a rebound shot that bounced off the near post giving Milwaukie a 2-0 lead with over 20 minutes to play in the first half. The scoring wasn’t done and the Mustangs had more to prove. On a set piece ball by Holmes, junior midfielder, Annika Candee shot a bullet from 18 yards out that sailed over the Century goalkeeper giving the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. The last score of the half came when junior forward, MaKenna Presley, crossed the ball to junior forward, Asha Saunders, who kicked it in for the 4th and final goal of the first half. The Nights didn’t make it out of their half of the field most of the half only getting 2 shots on goal. Defenders, Noelani McGowan (Senior), Chloe Mueller (Senior), Santi Hart (junior) and Mackenzie Ware (sophomore) did a great job, along with the midfield, to control the ball and keep possession against a very physical Century team.
The second half proved a little tougher for the Mustangs, but they continued to stay composed and play their game. Century was able to break past the midfield on a few occasions getting 3 shots on goal, but the defense and senior goalkeeper, Kinsleigh Edmunds, kept Century from finding the back of the net. The Mustangs scored their final goal of the game off of a penalty kick by senior forward, Katelyn Howard, giving the Mustangs a 5-0 lead.
Edmunds was recorded with 4 saves on the night.
The Mustangs (2-0) travel to Hudson Bay High School on Monday for an 8pm game.
