Game Recap

The Mustangs hosted the St. Helens Lions and came out on the attack just seconds after getting the ball. They unloaded 10 shots on the St. Helens goal keeper in the first half.

Sophomore midfielder, Irene Estrada, was first to find the net for the Mustangs on a pass from senior midfielder Ellie Holmes. She took the ball through multiple defenders and basically ran the ball into the goal in the 4th minute of the game. The game proved to be a physical one and the Mustangs responded well. Senior forward, Katelyn Howard and midfielders; Holmes, Estrada, Yesenia Torres (senior), Candee (junior), MaKenna Presley (junior) did a great job of keeping possession of the ball and fighting off the Lions. The Defense; Noelani McGowan (senior), Chloe Muller (senior), Santi Hart (junior) and Mackenzie Ware (sophomore) only allowed the Lions to get off one shot on goal in the first half.

In the 21st minute of the game, the Mustangs added one more goal when on a pass from Holmes, Candee fired a shot past the Lions goal keeper giving Milwaukie a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half didn’t start as the Mustangs had planned when the Lions were able to get a goal in the 42nd minute of the game to bring the score to 2-1. The Mustangs kept fighting to win the ball and keep possession. The Lions did have more scoring opportunities in the second half getting off 6 shots, but Edmunds was sharp in the goal just like she has been all season. The Mustangs drew 2 yellow cards in the game, but stayed strong and battled for the ball. Sophomore midfielder, Kiersten Charron and junior forward Asha Sanders contributed off the bench for the Mustangs. In the 72nd minute, Sanders came on a through ball from Holmes and outran the Lions defense for the 3rd and final goal of the game for the Mustangs giving them a 3-1 lead.

The Lions didn’t give up and neither did the Mustangs in the last minutes of the game. The Mustangs maintained possession until the final minute of the game giving them their 8th win of the season to remain undefeated with an 8-0-1 record.

The Mustangs host Parkrose on Tuesday, October 10 at 7pm.
