PORTLAND — The Milwaukie girls basketball team found its stride in the second quarter and never slowed down, moving up in class to take down 6A David Douglas 44-32 last Tuesday.
After tying the score twice, the Mustangs took their first lead midway through the second quarter after Noelani McGowan drove the baseline for a three-point play. Milwaukie would take a 24-17 lead into the locker room after India Gultry beat the buzzer with a runner in the lane.
Milwaukie would grow the lead to as many as 15 points in the second half, highlighted when Ariana Sanchez hit a 3-pointer, then drove the lane for a layup on the next possession.
The Mustangs (2-2) play at Jesuit at 7:15 p.m. Friday and are at The Dalles at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
